At Empire Lincoln we’re proud to celebrate the centennial of the Lincoln Motor Company, which officially joined Ford in 1922. Our Abingdon, VA dealership is just a small part of what makes Lincoln special, and we wanted to take this chance to look back on the history of Lincoln.

The Early Years In Detroit

Michigan was home to a massive boom in automobile manufacturing in the early 20th century. Ford and Lincoln found their beginnings in the Great Lakes state in Detroit. Henry M. Leland founded the brand and named it after the first president he ever voted for, back in 1846. Lincoln was financed early on through World War I engine contracts.

Lincoln Becomes Part Of Ford

On February 4, 1922, Lincoln was purchased and became part of Ford. Since then, Lincoln has been one of Ford’s major luxury brands. Today, Lincoln is the only luxury brand under the Ford umbrella, offering an unparalleled level of style and sophistication across its model lines. Currently, the Lincoln model line includes the Lincoln Navigator, Nautilus, Aviator, and Corsair, which are available in a variety of configurations and model years.

The Future Of Lincoln Motor Company

The current Lincoln model line-up features world class luxury vehicles, and each year Lincoln has raised the bar for what to expect from an auto manufacturer. New plug-in hybrids are also available as Lincoln grows their offerings to include the latest engine technology, and there’s plenty more innovation on the way. Take a drive down to your local Lincoln dealership to learn what this brand has to offer with more than 100 years of experience under its belt. We’ll be waiting for you at Empire Lincoln to help you find the perfect vehicle for your lifestyle.
